Accomodation

Another pertinent question is where you can stay while at the con.

The campus accomodation offers nice rooms at a reasonable price. Last year we had some complaints from the campus office so try to behave yourself if you're staying there.

If you're feeling a bit more opulent the Glenroyal Hotel is just down the road.

There are also a few B&Bs in Maynooth if that's more to you're liking, you can find links here, here and here.

Of course you could rely on your looks to win you a free bed for the night but in these recessionary times it really is a buyers market.

Transport

Some of you may be asking the not insignificant question of how to actually get to Dominicon.

Well we're on in the John Hume building on the north campus of NUI Maynooth.

A fairly comprehensive account of how to get to NUIM can be found here

The John Hume building is number 15 on this map, very easy to find from the footbridge at 24.

And if you'd rather see what it actually looks like, go here.

Charity Calendars on Sale at Dominicon

In a joint effort to raise money for Crumlin Childrens Hospital and to show people that Gamers aren't all overweight, unattractive, socially stunted men, one photographer and twelve of the most attractive irish gamer girls have come together in one calendar for 2010.
The Bad Girls of Irish Gaming 2010 debuted at Gaelcon and is going to continue it's drive to do some good at Dominicon and will be on sale for €15 both Saturday and Sunday with the proceeds going were they are badly needed, to the kids.
So if you're looking for an original gift for christmas or just something different to brighten up your wall for the coming year while helping those who need it, pick one up at Dominicon.

Please, think of the younglings.

Board Games

This year, as befits our null-G theme, we invite you to bring and play space themed games. We will, of course, also be playing old favorites such as Settlers of Catan, A Game of Thrones, Junta, Carcassone and the mighty Revolution!

Be sure and sign up for our second King Munchkin tournament as we seek even more munchkinness than before!

And for the meglomaniacs, we are having a weekend long demo game of Diplomacy - the game where behind every smile is a stab in waiting.

So bring us your games, your dice and yourselves!

RPGs

You're here because you're interested in slaying orks, goblins and maybe even ewoks. Yep it's Dominicon's RPGs and do we have a plethora of games for you this year, but don't let me tell you that just scroll down and see for yourself.

Past the Big Blue Beyonder
A 5 Player Game of 4th Edition Dungeons and Dragons by Siskey

The Spelljammers have plied the skies between the Twin Worlds for as long as anyone can remember, and crews like yours protect them. Some crews get rich, and some don’t. Yours, regrettably, is among the latter. So when a fat contract gets offered, you can’t afford to hesitate. Seems like a simple job: investigate a floating fragment out in space. The reward? Your very own Spelljammer ship! And there’s something about the Far Realms and invisible horrifying monstrosities. Probably just rumours from competing crews eager for work. Probably.

Firefly: Stonewall by David Costelloe
A Cortex system game for 5 players.

Following repeated raids and attacks by Independent militia across the 'Verse, the Union of Allied Planets has resolved to solve the lawlessness and barbarity on the rim through military action. While conscription goes into effect in the core planets, the Browncoat forces on Persephone get ready for an assault on Eavesdown City unaware of the hidden weapons the Alliance garrison is ready to unleash. Now a group of greenhorn soldiers, an alcoholic PI and a small time thief, are the only ones that can stop the Alliance from destroying the fledging Independent movement before it starts.
The greatest war in human history starts today...

The Unlikely Warriors and the Desire for sleep. Patch 2.8.9
a World of Warcraft setting by Liam Hollingsworth

Calling all men to arms! The Riverpaw Gnolls have built a force and are threatening our beloved Stormwind! We need all! Vagrants, outcasts, loners and even a well behaved thief to join our struggle against the menace! Expect pay and loot after!* You'll be assigned to strike teams and work with the best men we have to offer. Those with the steel and misguided magic come, and you can make new friends!

The Flying Scotsman
A GURPs: Hellboy Adventure
by Padraig Barrett

“Sir, that report from RAF Gairloch you wanted.”
“Thank you Pickering. Err, have there been anymore of the… you know whats?”
“Crop circles? Yes sir.”
“Was it shaped like a… thingy again?
“Yes sir. Captain Hetherington included some photographs”
“Well the Ministry cannot be seen to be investigating this. What if the press found out we were looking at photographs of… of a meat & two veg!”
“More “all veg” sir, seeing as it’s a “crop” circle”
“Shut up Pickering”

Armstron High class of 88. A LARP by Harry Cullen & Anthony O' Reilly.

Won’t Someone Think Of The Younglings!
A Knights of the Old Republic, Star Wars Scenario
By Damien Mc Gurrell

The bounty is a Jedi, notoriously difficult to capture or kill. This one though is their equivalent of a teacher of infants. Master Overledene was last report taking a troop of younglings on an outing to the volcanic planet of Shola. So easy in, take him by surprise, easy out right?

They Know When You've Been Sleeping...
An Unknown Armies Scenario by Anthony O'Reilly

"The Sleeping Tiger." It's what the Occult Underground calls the public at large. The ignorant masses have no idea what kind of world lurks just beyond their awareness. The Sleepers make sure it stays that way. They move in silent, and act quickly and quietly to monitor, manage, or remove dangerous elements. No-one knows the extent of the Sleepers' power, knowledge, and influence. The Sleepers make sure it stays that way. But when certain members of the Underground start to make noise, a message needs to be sent. Just so everyone remembers you're there.
The Message is simple.
They know when you've been bad or good,
So be Good... Or Else.

In Space, No one can here you Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaagh!
A Dark heresy by John Kennedy

Boss Rutgit 'as got 'imself a zonkin' great Space Hulk in dem fancy traktor beams wot Blagmek dun fer 'im after 'e was dun makin' dat incendiary sandwich gubbinz. It's da job of Da Kommandos to get aboard and clean out da front end of da Hulk so we's can land da kroozer and get moved in!"

Kill the Vermin
star wars saga edition by Thomas Byrne

A long time ago in a galaxy far far away the ewok vermin of Endor hampered the construction of the shield generator on the forest moon of Endor. A squad of brave young Stormtroopers fresh from the Imperial Stormtrooper Markmanship Academy have been put on pest control duty little knowing that idiocy and jub yubs awaited.

Start

So this year Dominicon is on the weekend of the 13th to the 15th of November.
It's on in the John Hume Building in NUI Maynooth and we should have enough games going on to keep even the most obsessive gamer satisfied.
